Reiki FAQ
What is Reiki?
Reiki is an ancient natural healing modality guided by Universal Life-Force Energy. Reiki’s roots are thought to stem from Tibet more than 3,000 years ago; resurfacing in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s in Japan. Simply put Reiki translates to Rei (Universal or Spiritual) Ki (Life Force or Energy). This universal energy is the energy within/around all living “beings”, plants, animals, humans, microorganisms within the universe. We can not have life without “Reiki” flowing through us. This is the energy given to us by Source. You may associate “Source” with a term/identity that fills you spiritually/personally.
Reiki is a Holistic approach to life and wellness. It brings balance, harmony, and restores ease where there is "dis-ease" in our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies. One session can bring deep relaxation providing stress relief. While routine sessions can assist in deeply healing our being on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level.
Reiki follows the same energetic/physical pathways as acupuncture or reflexology.
Reiki is non invasive; it can even be given without physical touch.
Reiki is safe for children or elderly.
Reiki complements traditional medical treatment.
Reiki can be sent distantly; transcending time and space.
Reiki can do no harm.
Reiki is pure unconditional love.
What Reiki is Not.
Reiki is not a religion and does not require certain beliefs to utilize. It only requires the willingness to receive and release.
Reiki is not only for when you feel sick or down.
Reiki is not a “cure all”- it is a healing tool; requiring the recipient to be open to receiving & willing to do their part.
Reiki is not a substitute for traditional medical treatment.

What does one experience during a Reiki Session?
Reiki is a truly individualized experience. There is no right or wrong way of receiving this healing. Take a deep breath, allow yourself to be open to the experience, set an intention, & see what occurs. If your mind starts wondering “ is it working?” or “ am I doing this correctly?”, come back to breathe. Below is a list of sensations reported by clients. You may experience all, some, or none of these sensations.

How long is a Reiki session?

What do I do after a treatment?
Drink plenty of water to continue to “detoxify”/ move energy.
Bonus points for citrus; it is pure energy.
Allow yourself to rest. Your body is changing on a cellular level.
Have gratitude for the experience of Reiki
Have gratitude for showing up for yourself.
Journal or reflect on your experiences/growth/ with Reiki
Enjoy the sensation of centeredness & share your light.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are minimal and do not occur frequently. In the field we call this a healing crisis. Receiving Reiki can cause slight irritations that generally clear within 24 hours. Increasing water intake before and afterwards will reduce symptoms. Healing is occurring on a cellular level- just like a work out at the gym; our body requires adjustment periods.
Stuffy nose
Slight pressure on center of forehead
Sore muscles.
How often should one receive Reiki?
I personally leave this up to the individual. Traditionally, patients were seen multiple times a day for 4 weeks for deep physical dis-ease. Four sessions has now become tradition for those looking to balance mind, body, and spirit. I have worked with clients weekly up to 6 months. I suggest the client navigate this based on their personal needs.
Is there any scientific research behind Reiki?
In the scientific world what we call the energy body is referred to as the "bio-field" or " electromagnetic field". Healing of this field through the use of Reiki or "healing touch" is being studied extensively through major universities and hospitals.
The Center for Reiki Research is a non-profit steer heading these scientific studies. Let's take a look at an excerpt from one of their most recent case studies, below. You can access their website by clicking here
"At Harvard University, we conducted a largescale (N = 1411) pragmatic study of Reiki for physical and mental health symptoms, including but not limited to, pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and wellbeing. All symptoms were significantly improved following a single Reiki session. The article abstract can be found here. We are currently preparing the qualitative component of the study for publication. Qualitative analysis shows that a Reiki session corresponds to an experience of deep relaxation, perceptual changes, and a spiritual mystical experience. This research was presented at the INCAM 2020 conference. "

How does one become trained and attuned in Reiki?
Within the Usui Shiki Ryoho linage, training and attunement is passed down from Reiki Master Teacher to student. Traditionally, education consisted of knowledge passed down verbally followed by mentorship. As time has passed education has began to take written form, preserving teachings. These trainings require the student to implement self practice working with their teacher in various ways to gain understanding and experience. Throughout the training process the student undergoes a sacred initiation called "Attunement" . During the this process the teacher assist the student in opening their energy body and attuning their channel to the vibration of Reiki, allowing the student to be a clear vessel and channel of this divine practice. Without the attunement practice one is not able to channel Reiki.
Dani received training and attunement of the first and second degree with Reiki Master Teacher, Katie Pifer of Lotus Healing, INC. in 2018; with Reiki Master & Teacher attunement following in 2019.
Today, you may discover various ways of receiving sessions, teachings and attunements. These opportunities may stem from your local "healer", schools or centers, or even a Reiki Master Teacher holding workshops at a festival. The setting and prestige or lack of does not make one place better or lesser than the other. Where you receive from is not as important as from whom. Since Reiki has such deep ancestral roots, you may find several cultures that practice a form of "laying of the hands" or "healing touch". While lines can be pure, they can also be blended. What matters most is you have a resonance with the practitioner or teacher and know they have your best interest at heart.

If you are called to study Reiki, I invite you to visit "courses". Here I take a unique approach to guiding one through their Reiki journey.
